Appointments

Who do I see?

Routine appointments

Our appointment system is a triage first system , which means you can book a telephone call with your GP who will be able to assess whether your problem can be dealt with over the telephone, over a video consultation, signposted to another service more appropriate or ask you to come to the surgery for a face to face consultation. We have both pre-bookable & same day Telephone triage appointments available. Please note as below same day appointments are for urgent issues.

You can book these triage appointments via the telephone or via online services.

  • Same Day (Urgent) – these are appointments that you feel require urgent medical attention on that day.
  • Pre-Bookable (Routine Non-Urgent) – if you require an appointment with a doctor or nurse you can contact us by phone to book your appointment.  You may also register to use our online booking facility for GP appointments. You will speak to your own doctor wherever possible, so that you receive the best continuity of care.  If your doctor is away on leave you will be offered an appointment with another doctor. (Please contact us if you need to cancel a pre-bookable appointment, as our audit has shown that many pre-bookable appointments are not kept).
  • Internet Appointments – to help patients who work and find it difficult to ring in during opening times, there is a pre-bookable telephone internet slot available.
  • Online Appointment – These appointments are when you don’t need to see a doctor or a nurse but may have a query that can be answered by sending in a written request using our online access link. It may be a clinical query that just needs a quick answer and doesn’t need for you to be seen or for you to talk to the clinician or an administrative query. Someone will come back to you as soon as they have an answer for you.
  • Community Pharmacy Appointments – You may have an issue that a referral to a Community Pharmacist can help. If this is the case our staff will explain you can be referred to a community pharmacist who is qualified to consult on minor ailments. You can choose the pharmacy you would like to consult with and we will organise for them to ring you on the day and discuss your problem. If they feel a doctor needs to be involved in your consultation they will let you and us know.

Cancelling your appointment

If you have an appointment and can no longer attend or wish to cancel, please telephone us on 01455 271442 or use the NHS App.

Consult with a Doctor online

We now use Rapid Health, our digital triage and appointment system, to help patients access the right care quickly and safely.

Rapid Health allows you to describe your symptoms or make a request online, 24 hours a day. Once your request is triaged by Rapid Health or reviewed by one of our Patient Coordinators, you’ll be offered appointment options based on clinical need and availability.

In most cases, you’ll see a choice of face-to-face or telephone appointments, often for the same day, depending on capacity.

This system has already enabled us to offer more face-to-face appointments than in previous years, while ensuring patients are directed to the right clinician at the right time.

For children’s appointments, please continue to call the surgery for now — these will move onto Rapid Health soon.

Extended Access

We offer routine appointments with extended access during the week & at weekends with our Extended Access clinics. Please contact Reception for more information. These are held at Centre Surgery In Hinckley & Newbold Verdon Surgery. Appointments are available for Nurses & GP’s at a variety of times when the surgery is closed Mon – Friday and Saturdays from 08.00 – 17.00. These clinics are by appointment only , which can be made by your doctors surgery.

Please note Reception isn’t open through extended Hours.

Home Visits

Please telephone reception before 11am if you wish to request a home visit.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery.
